Writing a killer wedding speech

By December 17, 2018 No Comments

Whether you are the bride, groom, father-of-the-bride, best man etc, we get it! Writing a speech can be nerve wracking for anyone (even the seasoned public speaking professionals!).

Whatever your relationship with the happy couple, make your speech meaningful as this is what will be remembered (not your nerves, your tears or when you spilt your drink!).

Everyone loves a good story so try to incorporate one into your speech. The same goes for humour, but the nice funny kind only (you know what we are talking about, don’t roast the happy couple).

And our last piece of advice, keep it simple! There’s no hard and fast rule for how long your wedding speech should go for so don’t sweat it but also don’t waffle on for 20 minutes.

As for how to structure a basic wedding speech, here are the basics to get you started…

  1. Introduce yourself
  2. Your relationship with the couple
  3. Thank you’s
  4. Something special about the couple – a story!
  5. Finish with a toast

If the above isn’t quite enough of a guide there are some great books and oodles of online speech guides available to help you cheat (a little!). See some of our favs below to help get you started.
