Why do I need wedding insurance?

Because a wedding costs so much – you protect yourself so you can recover these payments if something goes wrong. It might a full cancellation or extra costs to reschedule. Like any major cost in life it is really wise to insure it!

Can anyone apply for wedding insurance?

Yes providing the couple getting married are Australian residents or the wedding is in Australia. Even better a member of the couple’s immediate family can apply and purchase a policy for the couple.

Can LGBTQIA couples also apply?

Absolutely! Wedding Insure is proud to provide insurance to ALL couples regardless of gender, age or culture. Love is love after all!

How do I purchase a Wedding Insure policy?

Our process is super quick and simple! Apply right here on our website, choose your preferred Wedding Insure package then follow the simple on line process.

Wedding Insurance will then be in place – you pay the premium using either Visa or Mastercard.

You’ve then got your wedding insurance policy.

Why are there five different packages?

You select the option that best meets your needs and your own personal budget. It’s a personal choice when it comes to choosing the right wedding insurance policy for you.

Please remember the entry level Bronze package doesn’t insure Personal Liability or Professional Counselling.

Can I choose when a Wedding Insure policy starts?

You don’t need to because your insured from the moment you buy your policy until the end of the wedding (subject to any waiting periods).

But you must remember to purchase your insurance a minimum of 30 days out from your wedding date and no longer than 18 months prior.

How soon can I purchase a Wedding Insure policy for my wedding to be covered?

You can purchase a policy up to 18 months prior to your wedding date and a minimum of 30 days out. The sooner you purchase, the better!

If I make a claim, is there any excess applicable for this insurance?

With Wedding Insure there is NO excess to pay, how good is that!

Does Wedding Insure cover weddings outside of Australia and are there any countries on the exclusion list?

Wedding Insure covers most countries worldwide, however we cannot insure countries that are on the “Do not travel” list. Please see smarttraveller.gov.au for the full exclusion list.

Which wedding insurance package should I buy?

We recommend you select a package that will best suit your budget and to cover what you are spending on your wedding.

How do I lodge a claim?

Simply complete our online claim form under “How to Claim” right here on our website.

Who can make a claim?

The couple getting married, so make sure both your names are listed.

How long does it normally take to receive my claim?

We have a turnaround time of 10 days if all the information is provided to us. But each claim and the time taken will vary as each is considered individually.

What does Personal Liability cover?

Personal liability cover relates to your on individual legal liability following either accidental injury to third parties or accidental loss of or damage to third party property. Personal liability cover is similar to Public liability cover. Your cover will also pay for legal costs and expenses in defending any claim in respect to such injury, loss or damage.

There will be fireworks/pyrotechnics at the reception, is this acceptable to the insurers?

Unfortunately claims arising directly or indirectly from firearms, fireworks or pyrotechnic devices are not covered under Wedding Insure’s policies.

I want to pay my premiums with installments, is this possible?

No, full payment is required to secure your policy as we can’t accept installment payments.

Does your insurance have some exclusions and conditions?

Yes, these are all outlined in detail in our Product Disclosure Statement in our Policy Wording section from page 11 onwards.

Will I be covered if my wedding gets cancelled?

Yes, you will be covered in the event of cancellation providing the reason is specified in your policy. Please refer to pages 11 and 12 in our Product Disclosure Statement for the list of reasons that are covered. In the case that your reason is covered, you will be able to claim for reimbursement of cancellation costs up to the value listed in your policy.

Does Wedding Insure cover my honeymoon, if not can I add this on?

No, our packages do not cover honeymoons, only wedding days. You could look at a travel insurance policy to cover your honeymoon.

My wedding costs have increased, will I still be covered? Can I increase my package?

Your policy will cover you up to the limits detailed in your policy. Yes, you can usually increase your policy and pay the additional premium as long as you do so at least 30 days prior to your wedding. Please email us at hello@weddinginsure.com.au to request an increase.

Will I be covered for deposits I have already paid prior to purchasing a Wedding Insure policy?

Yes, any deposits or payments made prior to the start of your policy will become covered as soon as you purchase your policy. However any known failures or circumstances won’t be insured.

What happens if either the bride or groom change their mind before the wedding?

Our policies do not cover a change of mind. Therefore claims arising from a decision made by one or both parties to not to proceed with or take part in the wedding, even from anxiety, stress, depression or any other mental or nervous disorder, will not be insured.

Is there a cooling off period where I can cancel my policy?

If you have purchased a Wedding Insure policy but then decide within 14 days of purchase that you want to cancel it, you can email us at hello@weddinginsure.com.au.

Is weather covered?

Yes, but only severe weather conditions that result in the couple being unable to reach the wedding venue on the day of the wedding. This means weather conditions that cause a major disruption to travel services including rail, air, water and road closures.

Can non-Australian nationals be covered for an Australian wedding?

Yes, if you are planning an Australian wedding, we can offer cover to permanent or temporary residents and visa holders.

One of us is an Australian resident but the other isn’t, can we still apply?

Yes, as long as one of you is an Australian resident you can buy a policy.

Will I be covered against redundancy?

No, unfortunately this policy does not cover against redundancy.

If the bride, groom or a family member gets sick or injured just before the wedding, what are our options?

You will be covered up to the amount on your policy if you need to cancel or reschedule your wedding if injury or sickness occurs resulting in hospitalisation of the couple or a member of the immediate family within 30 days of the wedding, rendering them unable to attend the wedding.

Will my policy cover a lost wedding dress?

Yes, we will pay the cost to replace the wedding dress if it is stolen (and reported to the police within 24 hours) while in the possession of the couple or a member of the bridal party of immediate family member. Please refer to page 13 and 14 in our Product Disclosure Statement for full details.

What happens if one of the wedding/ceremony party has an ongoing illness?

Pre-existing medical conditions are excluded on our policies. There is no insurance for this.

What happens if our suppliers go out of business before the wedding?

Supplier failure is a feature of our policies that we insure. This includes the non-refundable deposits. Just make sure you pay the suppliers directly and not a third party.

We’re hiring a marquee, are we covered?

With each of our Wedding Insurance policies you are covered for against accidental damage for marquees or other hired equipment. For further information, refer to the PDS and your own wedding insurance policy limits.

What happens if the mother of the bride/groom’s wedding outfit is ruined?

The bridal party is covered for their wedding attire. This includes the Wedded Couple, mother & father of the Wedded Couple, bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girls and ring bearers

The reception venue is requesting a Certificate of Insurance, how do we get this?

Your certificate of insurance is emailed to you once you purchase a policy. If you have misplaced it, please login and resend your documents.

Help! We have lost our wedding rings, are they covered?

Yes, they are definitely covered. Be sure to check that your level of cover is appropriate for the price of the rings.

Does Wedding Insure cover all wedding presents, including cheques, gift certificates, etc.?

Yes, these are all covered under Wedding Insure’s policies. Be sure to check what limit of cover is provided.

The groom has had his suit stolen, are we covered to replace it?

Yes, this is included in the Wedding Insurance policy.

What happens if the florist doesn’t arrive with the flowers?

This is covered under our supplier failure. We will reimburse you for replacement flowers and will cover any pre-paid fees for the original flowers.

What happens if the rented wedding cars do not arrive?

Our policies cover supplier failure and you will be eligible to claim replacement cars and paid fees

My venue requires us to have liability cover greater than $5m, can I get more through Wedding Insure?

Our platinum & Diamond policies offer $10m and $20m worth of Personal liability insurance.

My venue said I need Public Liability insurance, is your Personal Liability the same thing?

Generally speaking personal and public liability are the same thing. If your guests are injured at the ceremony/reception and you are held responsible, our personal liability will cover you. Be sure to check the general exclusions.

Who is the insurance company or underwriter of the insurance?

Our insurance is underwritten by certain underwriters at Lloyds.

Will my pre-wedding party/event be covered, such as bucks or hens party?

Unfortunately this is not covered with Wedding Insure

My Fiancé and I live overseas but are Australians, are we able to buy a policy from Wedding Insure?

Yes, you qualify to purchase a policy, however there is no personal liability available for weddings outside of Australia.

If a terrorist attack happens and I am unable to make my wedding, is this covered?

No claim will be paid for any loss or damage or liability directly or indirectly occasioned by, happening through or in consequence of war, terrorism, invasion, acts of foreign enemies, hostilities (whether war be declared or not), civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrection, military or usurped power, or confiscation or nationalisation or requisition or destruction of or damage to property by or under the order of any government or public or local authority.

I want to purchase on behalf of my Son/Daughter, which name do I use on the form?

Please use your child and their partner’s name on the form.

Will my flights and accommodation be covered if our wedding is overseas?

In the event of a cancelled/rescheduled wedding claim, all your travel expenses will be reimbursed. This includes the flights, hotels and venue bookings.

My partner is in the military, what will happen if they are deployed?

If your partner is enlisted with the Australian Defence Force (Army, Navy or Air Force) and they are posted overseas (unexpectedly and unavoidably so) we will pay out a claim to reschedule/cancel your wedding.

What is the refund policy for Wedding Insure?

If you are not happy with your policy you can request a full refund within 14 days of the purchase date.

Many people are helping to pay for my wedding. Will their deposits be protected?

Yes, the deposits and covered no matter who has paid them initially.

Can you offer insurance for a “Change of Heart”?

Unfortunately we do not have a “Change of Heart” cover available.

Are all vendors covered under the one policy?

All your deposits are covered under the policy – yes!

I made a mistake on the application, what do I do?

How do I get my policy documents once I purchase a policy?

Your policy documents are emailed to you once you have purchased your policy. If you lose these, you can login to Wedding Insure and the documents can be resent.

Who is the insurance company behind Wedding Insurance?

Our policies are underwritten by Lloyds of London. “Lloyd’s are one of the leading and best regarded specialist insurers in the world.

Do you accept cheques, money orders, Afterpay or Paypal?

Unfortunately we only accept credit card payments through our secure online payment portal.
